USING THE ALL-OR-NOTHING MENTALITY IN YOUR FAVOR

Are you using the all-or-nothing mentality in your favor or is it slowing you down?

As former athletes, the all-or-nothing mentality can feel like it's dragging you down, QUICK. You hold yourself to incredibly high standards and feel extreme defeat when you can't measure up. This mentality is without a doubt contributing to the constant on and off cycles with your consistency and can be a huge mental hurdle to overcome.

You don't have to "do more". You don't have to "work harder" or be "all gas".

You're allowed (and encouraged) to slow down when you need to. By slowing down when you need it most, you'll be able to go full throttle when you've got the energy to do so.

So how do we shift our perspective so we can use this mentality in our favor?

First, take some time to appreciate and respect the grit + determination you have to get to work on that goal you’ve been stewing on for months now. There’s no better time than now to take action. Lean into that commitment + discipline to help get you there faster.

Second, utilize this mindset to help your inner athlete feel that passion + drive that we once felt for our sport and put it towards our own goals. The mentality of an athlete is unlike any other. Use your power + play into your strengths. You dedicated so much of your life to improve in your sport and you get to use that same energy on yourself life after sport – it’s truly an incredible experience!

Finally, use it as an opportunity to improve your discipline when working on yourself. It can be easy to push our goals to the back burner when other things pop up. You can easily blame your chores and other responsibilities but all you’re doing is standing in your own way. To say that you “don’t have the time” is making excuses. Instead, let’s switch up the language. Take a step back and look at HOW you’re using your time. What would be more beneficial for your goals? Prepping out food or scrolling on IG? Taking a walk or watching Netflix? (Fun fact: you can do both. I normally have music playing or a show on while I prep food. If I’m walking on the treadmill, there’s a good chance I’m reading or watching a video!) Use this mindset to prioritize yourself + your goals.
